When you arrive for your initial dental cleaning appointment, your hygienist will begin by reviewing your medical history and taking any necessary dental X-rays. It is recommended to have dental radiographs taken at least once a year to ensure we can provide the most accurate dental diagnoses. Additionally, a gum check will be performed to assess the health of the tissues and bone supporting your teeth.

If no inflammation or bone loss is detected, you should qualify for a healthy mouth cleaning. Dental insurance labels this cleaning as a prophylaxis because it is a preventative cleaning. If bleeding and/or bone loss are noted, you will need more than a preventative gum therapy. You will be diagnosed with gum therapy cleaning to cure or maintain your gingivitis or periodontal disease.

For patients needing immediate care or flexibility, our office proudly offers same day dentist appointments to address urgent dental hygiene or gum care needs.

Gingivitis and periodontitis treatments are offered by our experienced dental hygienists at Dentists of Buena Ventura Lakes, Florida.

If the bone is healthy or unharmed by the bacteria causing the inflammation and bleeding, a scaling within gingivitis will be diagnosed by our dentist. Gingivitis is a curable disease with treatment. Frequent recare cleanings and improved home care will stop the disease from affecting your bone. If gingivitis is treated promptly, it can progress into periodontitis. Periodontitis is incurable.

If the bone has been affected and there is active bleeding when the gums are checked, unfortunately, you have active periodontal disease and are losing the support system for your teeth. If diagnosed and treated early, periodontal disease can be maintained for the remainder of your life without severe consequences. If treatment isn’t completed and homecare isn’t improved, one can lose teeth due to periodontal disease. If diagnosed with active periodontal disease, we offer in-office, non-surgical periodontal treatment. This treatment is better known as deep cleanings or dental insurance use the verbiage root planing and scaling.

Our dental hygienists have two priorities to provide the most comfortable dental cleaning possible and to help educate the patients of Dentists of Buena Ventura Lakes on their overall health.

Before any cosmetic treatments can be discussed, like professional teeth whitening and veneers, preventive care must be addressed.
